Narrative in VR, MR&AR
Title:
-
Immersing in the museum
Concept overview:
-
Virtual Reality(VR) is a rapidly evolving technology that has enormous potential for revolutionizing museum education. With VR, museum can create immersive experiences that allow learners to explore historical and cultural artifacts and environments in a way that were previously impossible.
Statement of need/problem:
-
The museum is a unique and excellent place for visitors and learners to experience history, culture, and arts. However, it is a kind of passive way just to walk through the hall and look through each piece of display, some visitors might even ignore the annotation of each exhibit so that they could not know the great story behind each of them, which lost the main point of meaning of museum. With VR, museums can engage visitors in a more meaningful and personalized way, creating an environment that inspires curiosity and encourages exploration.
Concept description:
-
As the example in ancient Egypt in my design, when visitors wear the VR headsets, there’s a virtual experience that allows them to explore the Great Pyramids, the Sphinx, and other ancient Egyptian landmarks and includes a guided tour that provides context and additional information for understanding the culture and history.
Target audience:
-
Age range: 10-65 years old
-
Geo Graphic: Global
-
Language: English
-
People who are interested in museums, history, culture, and arts.
Learning goals:
-
Learners will be able to step into historical or cultural scenes and learn about them in an immersive and more engaging way.
-
Learners will be able to inspire their interest and explore history actively through using the VR in museum.
Learning theories:
-
Situated learning theory: Learners can build a better understanding of history that they explore actively by experiencing the “real-world” context supported by VR.
-
Dual coding theory: Learners will be supplied with guided audio when they immerse in virtual reality to explain information and help them absorb it.
